Videoconferencing

Class Locations
The Videoconferencing classroom is similar to a traditional college classroom, but has some added features. The instructor and students use television cameras, television monitors and microphones to connect with each other for real-time interaction between sites. Some locations also have a desktop computer, document presenter and whiteboard to allow participants to share multiple forms of information. In this section you will find information about MTSU’s on-campus and off-campus classrooms, as well as some helpful hints for using the classroom technology.

On-campus Locations
MTSU teaches Videoconferencing Courses from the following Murfreesboro Campus classrooms:

  • Business and Aerospace Building, Room S273
  • Kirksey Old Main Building, Room 122
  • Peck Hall Building, Room 221

Off-campus Locations
MTSU offers Videoconferencing Courses to the following locations:

  • Columbia State Community College
    1665 Hampshire HWY
    Columbia, TN 38402
    Warf Building, Room 107

Textbooks
Most courses require a textbook.

Course Materials
The course syllabus, handouts, assignments and exams will be delivered via US Mail, FAX or MTSU courier to the distance sites before each class meeting. When you have assignments or exams to turn in, an MTSU courier will come to your site to pick up and deliver the materials to the instructor, or your instructor may accept assignments via email.

Class Meetings
Videoconferencing courses meet each week on the same day and time, however, there may be some instances in which one or more videoconferencing sites cannot connect to the videoconference.

Internet Access
All Videoconferencing students should regularly check their MTSU email address and PipelineMT for course announcements and correspondence from your instructor and/or the Videoconferencing Office. Some courses may also use the D2L course management system, which can be accessed via PipelineMT. Please check PipelineMT and your course syllabus for specifics on your particular course.

Technical Difficulties
In the event of technical difficulties at your site, the videoconferencing staff will record the class and provide a video recording of the session to students in the affected locations. Students will then be responsible for watching the tape and completing any assignments missed.

Inclement Weather
In instances of inclement weather, all distance learning sites will follow the MTSU Inclement Weather Policy. Please monitor your local radio and television stations for announcements and check your MTSU email account for messages concerning weather-related closings from the instructor or the videoconferencing staff. If class is conducted on the MTSU campus and your site is unable to have class due to an official closing, the videoconferencing department will record the class and provide a video to students.

*Please note that the videoconferencing department will NOT record classes for any reason other than technical difficulties or site closure. It is your responsibility to attend all classes. If you miss a class, please contact the instructor.
