Definition The Faculty Peer Assistant (FPA) Program was implemented in the Fall 2005 Semester to promote distance course excellence and quality. A FPA is assigned to mentor each course designer and to conduct peer reviews on all distance courses. Department chairs conduct the final review and approve delivery of the courses developed within their departments.
Eligibility Online course designers and instructors who have earned the LERN Certified Online Instructor (COI) designation are eligible to serve as Faculty Peer Assistants (FPAs), or mentors.
Program Sponsorship Distance Learning Faculty Services funds MTSU faculty participation in the Certified Online Instructor (COI) Program as budgets permit. Interested full-time professors may contact the office (cladams@mtsu.edu or (615) 904-8276) for information or to be placed on the waiting list.
In support of the FPA program, and budget permitting, the Distance Learning Faculty Services Office:
- Funds COI certification;
- Funds FPA attendance at faculty development workshops/seminars/conferences related to e-teaching/learning;
- Pay a peer review fee of $125 per course assignment – paid annually based on number of assignments.
Course Review Process Please refer to the Course Approval section for MTSU Online and Hybrid Courses for additional information
