Director of Faculty Development

Dr. Tom Brinthaupt is Professor in the Department of Psychology. He began serving as LT&ITC Director of Faculty Development in the Fall of 2010. Dr. Brinthaupt received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1989 and has taught at MTSU since 1990. He has extensive interest and experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning. This includes serving as an Instructional Technology Division Faculty Intern (2005-2006), an LT&ITC Faculty Fellow (2007-2008), a Online Faculty Mentor with the University College (since 2007), and the facilitator for the eLearning Pedagogy Faculty Learning Community. He has been the recipient of numerous awards for teaching and service at MTSU, including the Distinguished Educator Award in Distance Learning (2005), the Outstanding Achievement in Instructional Technology Award (2007), the Excellence in Teaching Award from the MTSU chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success (2009), the John T. Bragg, Sr. Distinguished Service Award (2006), and the College of Education and Behavioral Science University Community Award (2007).

Instructional Design Specialist

Paula Calahan joined the LT&ITC in July, 2011. As the first full-time employee designated solely for working with faculty in the Learning, Teaching and Innovative Technology Center, her primary responsibility is to be available to assist faculty preparing to design new courses or redesign current courses. She will also assist the director with coordinating and hosting center workshops and activities, as well as creating new teaching/learning resources.

Paula has 17+ years teaching experience in K-12, higher education, and professional development and has also worked as an advisor in the both the College of Mass Communication and Jones College of Business. She continues to teach and routinely serves as a mentor to new university studies Freshman Seminar and Successful Transition instructors. Paula hopes the teaching community at MTSU (including full and part time faculty, adjunct faculty and graduate assistants) finds the center to be instrumental in making connections with other faculty members to engage in cross-curricular collaboration, supportive in teaching methodology and course planning and preparation, and also finds that the center is as a valuable source for obtaining information and materials enhancing teaching and learning.

Graduate Assistant

The LT&ITC Graduate Assistant (GA) devotes 20 hours to the center every week. T he GA duties include maintaining the website, developing online resources, and setting up workshops and events.
