High Impact Practices (HIPs) provide substantial benefits to students. Research suggests that students who participate in courses that effectively use HIPs are more likely to successfully achieve course goals, have higher rates of interactions with their instructors, and have higher levels of job readiness. This presentation will give an overview of what makes HIPs successful, will provide practical strategies for implementing HIPs into classes, and will showcase the results of an intentional process of enacting high impact pedagogical practices in cross-disciplinary first year courses.   This panel will showcase the High Impact innovations made in our first-year seminar through ePortfolios, collaborative assignments in freshman-level math courses, and various practices used in a co-requisite Reading and U.S. History course.
