Scholarships

The Department of Recording Industry offers a number of scholarships each spring to continuing students. Amounts of these one time awards vary from approximately $300-$2,000. Information about the scholarships and about the application process and deadline date will be sent to recording industry students early in the spring term by e-mail.

June S. Anderson Foundation

The June S. Anderson Foundation awards yearly full tuition scholarships to full-time MTSU undergraduate women who are 23 years of age or older and who are preparing for careers in nontraditional fields for women.

Andy White Memorial Scholarship Award

The Department of Recording Industry will be awarding a scholarship in the amount of $500. To be considered for this award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

Application Requirements:

  1. Must be a full time RIM major
  2. Must have earned 75 credit hours (2nd semester Junior)
  3. Must be admitted to candidacy
  4. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA; must have at least a 3.0 GPA in Recording Industry classes.

The Department of Recording Industry will be awarding a scholarship in the amount of $450 to support internship travel and expenses. To be considered for this award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

  1. Must be a full time RIM major, admitted to candidacy
  2. Must be eligible for the internship program now or by next spring
  3. Preference will be given to students who have out-of-state internships

The Department of Recording Industry will be awarding a scholarship in the amount of $460. To be considered for this award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

  2. Must be admitted to candidacy
  3. Must be involved in student organizations.
  4. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  5. Must have financial need

Copyright Society of the South Award

The Copyright Society of the South will be awarding a scholarship to a student in the Department of Recording Industry in the amount of at least $1,000. To be considered for this award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

Application Requirements:

  1. Must be a full time RIM major
  2. Must have earned 75 credit hours (2nd semester Junior)
  3. Must have completed RIM 3700 (Copyright Law)
  4. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  5. If selected, the student will be asked to acknowledge the award by writing a note of thanks to the Copyright Society of the South.
  6. Financial need may be taken into consideration

Application Procedure:

Copyright Solutions Annual Scholarship Award

One $500 scholarship is available to a student in the Department of Recording Industry at MTSU from Copyright Solutions. To be considered for this award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

Application Requirements:

  1. Must be a full time RIM major
  2. Must have earned at least 60 credit hours
  3. Must have been admitted to candidacy, must have taken or currently be enrolled in Music Publishing, RIM 3900.
  4. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a RIM 3.0 GPA
  5. If selected, the student will be asked to acknowledge the award by writing a note of thanks to Copyright Solutions.
  6. Student must be active in the local and/or university music industry community (such as involvement with student organizations, volunteer opportunities within the industry, or other extracurricular music business/production activities)

Application Procedure:  (Quality of writing and neatness will be part of the evaluation process.)

Damien Bell Scholarship Award

The Department of Recording Industry will be awarding a scholarship in the amount of up to $560 to support internship travel and expenses. To be considered for this award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

Application Requirements:

  1. Must be an African-American student who is a full time student majoring in Recording Industry
  2. Must be admitted to candidacy
  3. Must be eligible for the internship program now or by next spring (2009)
  4. Preference will be given to students who have out-of-state internships; however, anyone eligible for the internship program is encouraged to apply.
  5. Financial need will also be a consideration

NARAS Scholarship Award

Scholarships are available to students in the Department of Recording Industry at MTSU from NARAS. Two students will be selected as finalists by the Recording Industry faculty. Those two students will be interviewed by NARAS along with finalists from other schools offering music business degrees in Nashville. Winners will be selected from those interviewed. Winners will receive scholarship awards, usually ranging between $500-$2,000. To be considered for an award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

Application Requirements:

  1. Must be a full time RIM major
  2. Must have earned at least 60 credit hours
  3. Must have been admitted to candidacy.
  4. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  5. If selected, the student will be asked to acknowledge the award by writing a note of thanks to NARAS.
  6. Financial need will be a consideration

Silas Rock Botner Memorial Scholarship Award

The Department of Recording Industry and DefKat Music will be awarding a scholarship in the amount of $500. To be considered for this award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011. The Recording Industry faculty will select up to five finalists. Each of those five finalists will have their bio, essay, and original song sent to a committee from DefKat Music which will judge the applications and songs. A winner of the award will then be selected.

Application Requirements:

  1. Must be a full time RIM major with a concentration in Songwriting
  2. Must be admitted to candidacy
  3. Must currently be enrolled in or have previously completed RIM 3020
  4. Must submit no more than two original songs (one is fine)
  5. If selected, the student will be asked to acknowledge the award by writing a note of thanks to the Silas Rock Botner Memorial Scholarship sponsor.

Application Procedure:

    2. An essay stating why you are interested in this award and why the committee should consider you

Three finalists will be selected by the Recording Industry faculty. Those three students' applications will be submitted to the SOLID University Outreach Committee for their recommendation of a winner. To be considered for this award, students must apply by Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

  2. Must have earned at least 60 credit hours
  3. Must have been admitted to candidacy.
  4. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a RIM 3.0 GPA

  3. Must have earned at least 12 hours of RIM credit
  4. Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, must have at least 3.0 GPA in Recording Industry classes
  5. Must have involvement in campus organizations, preferably with Recording Industry organizations
