Welcome to the College of Mass Communication!
Over the last decade, the College of Mass Communication at MTSU has become one of
the signature colleges at the university and one of the largest and best mass communication
colleges in the country. We are nationally and internationally known for our commitment
to the freedom of expression and academic excellence. Graduates of each of our three
academic units - the Department of Recording Industry, the Department of Electronic
Media Communication and the School of Journalism - hold prominent positions in government,
industry and education, including major leadership roles. Our college also includes
the Center for Popular Music, Sidelines (MTSU's student newspaper), WMOT (our 100,000 watt NPR radio station), WMTS (student
radio), MTTV (student cable), the Office of Communication Research (which conducts
a statewide poll twice a year) and the Seigenthaler Chair of Excellence in First Amendment
Studies. Our alumni, students, staff, faculty and administrators have much of which
to be proud.
I encourage you to read on our website our current electronic publications -- the
Alumni Newsletter and Mass Comments, where you can learn about all of the exciting news in our college. We will keep
you updated in these publications about our new Center for Innovation in Media, which
is slated to be open for use in spring 2012, our new $1.4 million mobile production
laboratory and other changes that are moving our college forward in a new era. We
are particularly pleased that an Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and
Mass Communication (ACEJMC) site team visited our college in November 2010 and recommended
full reaccreditation, which was unanimously approved in spring 2011 by the Accrediting
Committee and the Accrediting Council.
As always, we welcome your input and hope that you will join us in our success! Contributions
are always appreciated, including to our new Cornerstone Donors Program for our new
Center for Innovation in Media.
