History of the College of Mass Comm

The College of Mass Communication began as a simple proposal: In 1971, then President Scarlett called for the creation of  this now state-of-the-art institution. The Learning Resource Center (LRC) opened the following year to consolidate the programs that now comprise the College. Broadcasting was pulled from the Department of Speech and Theater, Journalism from a small list of existing courses, and the now renowned Recording Industry through the efforts of Ed Kimbrell, Ph.D., Glenn Himebaugh, Ph.D., Music Row delegates, and an academic committee. The College was first accredited in 1993.
