Historical Timeline
1971 - President Scarlett proposes creation of the College of Mass Communication
1972 - The Learning Resource Center opened on campus allowing space to consolidate the programs that now make up the College of Mass Communication.
1972-'73 - The College of Mass Communication is formed. Broadcasting was pulled from the Dept. of Speech and Theater. Journalism was created from a small list of existing courses. The Recording Industry program, as well as other curricula, were created through the efforts of Drs. Ed Kimbrell & Glen Himebaugh, delegates from Music Row and an academic committee.
1981 - The College's first attempt at accreditation failed.
1983 - Senator John Bragg begins lobbying for funding to construct a building for the College.
