Andrew Oppmann is MTSU's Associate Vice
President for Marketing and Communications. He leads internal and
external communications for MTSU, responsible for news and media
relations; marketing and branding; creative and visual services;
printing services; and the University's digital communications. He
serves on the President's Cabinet and is the University's chief
spokesman.
Andrew joined MTSU in November 2010 after a 25-year career as a
reporter, editor or executive for 10 newspapers in seven states.
Before taking his role at the University, he was president and
publisher of The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro and The
Leaf-Chronicle in Clarksville and a vice president for The
Tennessean in Nashville. A 1985 graduate of the University of
Kentucky, Andrew was a reporter for The Orange County Register in
Santa Ana, Calif.; the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader and The
Knoxville News-Sentinel. He worked as an editor at the
Herald-Leader, The Houston Post, The Cincinnati Enquirer, the
Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser and The Post-Crescent in Appleton,
Wis.
Andrew is a former national board member of the Associated Press
Managing Editors and served as editor of its quarterly magazine. He
received top columnist honors in 2004 from the Wisconsin Newspaper
Association and the Best of Gannett national competition. He was
named one of Gannett's top 15 newsroom supervisors in 1995 and
2000; one of its 10 top executive editors in 2005; and one of its
top three publishers in 2008. He is past president and a current
board member of the University of Kentucky Journalism Alumni
Association.
Andrew and his wife, Elise, live in Murfreesboro with their three
daughters. He is a native of Hopkinsville, Ky.
