Suggestions for Case Study #7

K.R. appears to be a little resistant to structure/rules. His resistance seems to be taking the form of refusing to engage in educational/career planning other than merely showing up for school. Strengths appear to include people skills (successful earning tips at work) and a (slightly misdirected?) independent streak. Acknowledging apparent strengths might help K.R. begin processing information about himself in ways conducive to educational planning. For example, “Sounds like you’re good with people. Do you think you’d want a career that is more people-oriented like management, sales, or social service-type work?” This simple question can begin the ball rolling for his practicing applying information about his strengths to the decision-making process. Referral to the career counselor can carry this process forward.
