Assessment/Placement

Students take portions of the COMPASS if they score 18 or lower on the ACT for English or Mathematics areas. Students take the Reading COMPASS if their Reading subscore score is 18 or lower. They take the English COMPASS test if their ACT English subscore is 18 or lower. They take the mathematics COMPASS if their ACT Mathematics subscore is 18 or lower. Valid ACT scores must be less than three years old. Using assessment results and other holistic measures, students are placed in ACT/COMPASS prescribed or college level classes. Students must take ACT/COMPASS prescribed courses if they test into them. On the first day of class, a third assessment is given as another measure to assure correct placement for the following courses: ENGL 1009K; READ 1000K; Math 1000K and Math 1010K or Math 1710K. See additional information under Second Chance Placement.
