| Module 1: College Advising
College Advising Office The mission of the College Advising Office is to promote and facilitate a successful transition to university life for students enrolled in academic majors offered through the College. Academic assistance provided to students allows for appropriate selection and registration of courses dependent on the chosen major. Students are introduced to personal development opportunities through referral and participation in university-wide creative, social, and leadership activities. In addition, the College Advising Office seeks to promote a sense of community and ownership for students by early referral to faculty advisors and academic support services. As a resource for the College, the Academic Advisor works closely with the academic departments in the coordination of recruiting activities for prospective students, community college transfer sessions, CUSTOMS orientation activities and the guidelines relative to the admission to teacher education process. In addition, the Advising Office coordinates faculty advising training sessions in conjunction with training programs offered through the University Records Office. Advising services at MTSU are a multi-level process. Dependent upon need, students may be assigned one or more professional advisors, such as athletic, undeclared/academic enrichment and high school deficiency advisors. It is the responsibility of the student to meet with appropriate advisors each semester prior to registration. Upon choosing a major, students are assigned a faculty advisor in the department of the selected major. Faculty advisors will ensure that students are making appropriate course selections for the chosen major. Certain academic programs require admission criteria to be met before enrolling in selected courses. Faculty Advisors will guide students toward admission standards for those academic programs. Students who enroll in an academic major leading to teacher licensure are strongly encouraged to meet with faculty advisors to ensure they are following the State Department of Education guidelines for licensure within the selected academic program.
