| Module 1: College Advising Academic Policies and Procedures Grade Point Average
Each grade is assigned a numerical equivalent as follows (Effective Fall 2000 plus/minus grading was implemented.): | | B+ = 3.33 | C+ = 2.33 | D+ = 1.33 | | | A = 4.00 | B = 3.00 | C = 2.00 | D = 1.00 | F = 0.00 | | B- = 2.67 | C- = 1.67 | D- = 0.67 | | To calculate a GPA, the grade’s numerical equivalent is multiplied by the number of credits a course is worth. The product represents quality points earned by completion of the course. Grade of A x 3 hours = 12.00 quality points Grade of B+ x 3 hours = 9.99 quality points Grade of C- x 4 hours = 6.68 quality points Grade of D x 2 hours = 2.00 quality points Grade of F x 3 hours = 0.00 quality points The sum of quality points is divided by the sum of credits attempted and yields the GPA. Example: | Course | Credits Attempted | Grade | Quality Points | | ENGL 1010 | 3 | A | 12.00 | | COMM 2200 | 3 | B+ | 9.99 | | BIOL 1030 | 4 | C- | 6.68 | | PHED 2100 | 2 | D | 2.00 | | MATH 1630 | 3 | F | 0.00 | | Total | 15 | | 30.67 | 30.67 divided by 15 = 2.045 GPA Pass, incomplete, audit, and withdrawal are not counted in the GPA. No rounding up or down of the GPA is done in determining eligibility for retention, graduation, honors, dean’s list designation, or taking an overload. |
