MTSU Partnership Program
Do you want to connect with a high school
student, work with them on study skills, discuss college life,
and serve as a mentor for someone considering going to college?
Then you should join MTSU Partnership Program and volunteer to
mentor students at one of MTSU's partner schools in
Nashville. As a volunteer in the MTSU Partnership Program you
will work with students in the AVID program which stands for
Advancement Via Individual Determination, which is designed for
students in the academic middle who have the desire to graduate
and go to college. This is a great way to increase your
communications skills and build your resume for the future.
MTSU is seeking volunteers for its AVID Partnership Program in
the seven schools in Davidson and Rutherford County.
How It Works AVID students are enrolled in at
least one of the high school's courses of rigor such as Honors
or Advanced Placement. The students then receive support in an
academic elective class called AVID which is taught during the
school day by a trained AVID teacher. Your commitment as a
volunteer for the MTSU Partnership Program
Who: You will be one of several MTSU students
who will be volunteering in this program.
What: One day a week work with the same small
group (5-7) students, assisting with their academic work and
also serving as a mentor answering questions about your college
experience. All volunteers will be asked to work at least one
semester.
When: You will work with a supervising teacher
and can arrange to go in the morning, mid-morning, or early
afternoon.
Where: Metro Nashville Public Schools and
Rutherford County Schools.

make college possible for a larger number of students who have
the potential to succeed with support. Your work will greatly
assist students reach their goal of attending college. Last

and completed college entrance requirements.
