What is MTMail?
MTMail is a new e-mail system for students of Middle Tennessee
State University. It is a partnership between the university and
Microsoft, using Windows Live.
What are the benefits to students?
What does this cost me?
MTMail is a free service to students.
Will my username change?
No. You will keep the same username. The domain will change from
mtsu.edu to mtmail.mtsu.edu.
What is the process to activate my account?
Activating your MTMail Account
How long will it take between the sign-up and when I can
use my account?
Usually about one hour.
Do I have to use MTMail?
No. However, all official university email will be sent to your
MTMail account. If you choose to use a different email system, you
will need to set up forwarding from your MTMail account. All
student e-mail will be forwarded to the account you designate,
whether that is MSN, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Roadrunner, or any
other service provider. On December 31, 2010, all student accounts
on the MTSU Webmail server will be deleted. Any mail you wish to
keep must be moved to your MTMail or commercial e-mail account
before that date.
What happens to my e-mail during account creation? You are responsible for forwarding your email contents from your @mtsu.edu account to your @mtmail.mtsu.edu account. New mail will automatically forward for you until the cut-off deadline.
How do I access MTMail?
You can access MTMail on the web at www.mtsu.edu/mtmail
How do I sign in?
Students can sign-in by clicking the Webmail link on the home page
and then clicking on the MTMAIL icon or go straight to
www.mtsu.edu/mtmail. You will be redirected to a Microsoft Live
Outlook page for sign-in. Enter your full email address:
username@mtmail.mtsu.edu and your password.
What is the login? Will my username and password
change?
Your login (or Windows Live ID, or username) for MTMail will be
your full e-mail address: username@mtmail.mtsu.edu. For example:
xxx1x@mtmail.mtsu.edu or zz1z@mtmail.mtsu.edu. You will be prompted
to change your password. Your username for Pipeline, D2L, and other
online services will NOT change.
Why am I redirected to a login site at
login.live.com?
MTMail is a branded service provided by Microsoft. If you type
www.mtsu.edu/mtmail into your web browser, it will redirect you to
login.live.com -- this is the login page for MTMail.
The login page is asking for my Windows Live ID.
What's that?
Your MTMail Windows Live ID is username@mtmail.mtsu.edu. You need
to put the @mtmail.mtsu.edu as a part of the username. For example:
xxx1x@mtmail.mtsu.edu. If you also have a personal Hotmail or
Windows Live account, you may need to click "Sign in with a
different account" before you can enter the new ID.
Your MTMail Windows Live ID is a new, separate Windows Live ID and
does not interfere with any account you may have already set up
with Microsoft
Who is eligible for MTMail?
All currently enrolled students of Middle Tennessee State
University, as well as alumni from Fall 2005 and forward.
Can I keep this account after I leave MTSU?
If you graduate from the university, you may keep your MTMail
account. If you leave the University for another reason, your
access will be terminated in about a year.
Why is MTSU creating MTMail?
The partnership with Microsoft allows us to offer enhanced e-mail
services to students, including greatly increased storage capacity,
without cost to the university or our students.
What's the benefit to Microsoft? Microsoft hopes that the positive experience you have with MTMail will result in your continued use of their services after you graduate.
Can faculty and staff get MTMail accounts?
No, MTMail is a student email package. We are currently
researching options for new faculty and staff email.
