THE MTSU SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The Symphony Orchestra is the premiere orchestral ensemble of the MTSU School of Music. Repertoire is selected from masterpieces of the standard orchestral literature and outstanding contemporary compositions. The Symphony is open to all MTSU students (regardless of major), faculty and staff by audition.

Placement in the MTSU Symphony is not final until audition results are posted. Please reserve both the Symphony Orchestra and the Concert Orchestra rehearsal times in your schedule until you receive audition results.

Rehearsal Times:
Tuesdays 5:00- 6:30 PM 
Thursdays 4:30-6:00 PM

MTSU Symphony Woodwind, Brass and Percussion Auditions - Audition Repertoire- Fall 2015

  •  Woodwind, brass and percussion membersof the MTSU Symphony are selected from the audition results of the MTSU Ensembles Placement Audition. Specific audition repertoire, dates and times are listed for each woodwind, brass and percussion instrument on the MTSU Wind Ensemble/Band web-site.

2015 MTSU HONORS ORCHESTRA APPLICATION

2015 MTSU HSHO APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON JULY 28.

 

2015 MTSU HONORS ORCHESTRA AUDITION INFORMATION

 Send in the 2015 MTSU HSHO application by emailed attachment or by mail. See the application for addresses. Send an audition video or recording by dropbox, attachment or by facebook link to Dr. Nies at:

Your video (or recorded) audition should contain 3-10 minutes of a prepared solo or excerpts of several solo works.

 

WOODWINDS, BRASS, PERCUSSION AND HARP AUDITIONS

The deadline for Woodwind, Brass, Percussion and Harp  HSHO applications and recorded auditions is October 24.

 

STRING AUDITIONS

The deadline for String HSHO applications and recorded auditions is October 28. If you are a member of a youth orchestra, have been selected as a member of an All-State Orchestra, or participated in the 2014 MTSU HSHO, you do not need to send an on-line audition for the 2015 Honors Orchestra. Positions in the 2015 HSHO are limited, so apply early!

Seating placement auditions will take place on Thursday, November 5 (6:00 PM) for all strings. Audition material will be selected from the 2015 HSHO repertoire.

THE MTSU CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

The Chamber Orchestra is composed of the leading members of the Symphony Orchestra. Repertoire is selected from all periods of the Chamber Orchestra literature. The Chamber Orchestra is open to all MTSU students by audition (regardless of major).

Rehearsal Time: Fridays, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Music Hall
(Chamber Orchestra members will also need to have 12:30- 1:30 PM available for several rehearsals during the semester- see Chamber Orchestra schedule.)



THE MTSU CONCERT ORCHESTRA

The Concert Orchestra offers the opportunity for all MTSU students, faculty and staff to enjoy participation in an orchestral ensemble. An audition is not required. Repertoire is selected from all periods of orchestral literature. The MTSU Concert Orchestra has premiered many compositions and arrangements by MTSU students. Music Education and Performance majors may audition to serve as assistant conductors. Contact Dr. Carol Nies, Music Director to reserve a position in the Concert Orchestra. [Carol.Nies@mtsu.edu].
