| Hi my name is Latoyia Mackey. I am a recent graduate of MTSU and a former foster child. I have to say the most difficult aspect for transitioning from foster care to college was lack of monetary support. I did not have any financial support from parents or foster parents. I also had no guidance to help me find ways to pay for college. Additionally, I am a mother so I needed a way to support myself and my girls. But it can be done. I was able to graduate from college debt free. There are many resources to help you. It is just a matter of finding out about these resources and utilizing them. I think the Next Step Program is a great resource to make the transition from foster care to college a smooth one. I would definitely recommend this resource to anyone. |
