Women's Center - Handbook

The June Anderson Center for Women & Nontraditional Students (JAC) seeks to improve the status of women and nontraditional students at MTSU through educational programs on women's leadership, career development, race and gender issues, financial management, body image, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

The JAC provides advocacy, women's health information, personal and professional support, and an informational network for campus and community members on gender-related issues. The center also provides a safe place for students, faculty, and staff to discuss a variety of issues that are important to their personal, academic, and professional development. Speakers are available from the JAC to present to classes, organizations, student clubs, sororities, fraternities, and community organizations.

Numerous programs are held throughout the year including Gender Circles, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Week, and National Women's History Month events. The JAC provides information and referrals about resources on campus and in the community and publishes a calendar of events at the beginning of each semester.

The JAC offers a free legal clinic on the last Thursday of each month and a Career/Professional Development Brown Bag Series the first Tuesday of each month. The center also publishes an annual free booklet- Scholarships, Fellowships, and Grants for Women. A resource and referral file includes information on campus community support agencies regarding financial aid, employment opportunities, emergency housing, pregnancy support, AIDS, mental health services, and domestic violence. All efforts are made to ensure confidentiality for all.

Volunteers for the JAC are always welcome. All JAC programs and services are available to both women and men.
