Recreation Center - Handbook

The Recreation Center is being expanded for increased recreational and fitness space and to add a student health facility. When the expansion is complete in Fall 2008, there will be additional space in the weight room and cardiovascular workout area, as well as a second aerobic room. Additionally, the facility houses six basketball/volleyball courts, six racquetball courts, a three-lane indoor track, an indoor swimming pool with a slide and diving board, a rock-climbing wall, equipment checkout, and locker rooms. Within the complex is a 4 ft. deep outdoor swimming pool and sun deck with four sand volleyball courts adjacent and a challenge course that includes an Alpine climbing tower.

Hours of Operation

  • Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m.-11 p.m.
  • Friday, 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Saturday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Sunday, 2 p.m.-10 p.m.

Admittance Policy

The Recreation Center is for the use of MTSU students and other authorized members of the University community (faculty, staff, spouses, dependents, and invited guests). A validated ID card must be presented at the main entrance to enter the Recreation Center during operating hours. Although such a policy may appear to be an inconvenience, it actually serves the purpose of protecting your interests and rights as an authorized user. An ID used illegally will be confiscated and the card owner and the person using the card will be required to leave the Recreation Center. Both individuals will not be allowed to use the center for the remainder of the day. The card owner must then meet with the facility manager or facility supervisor to redeem the card and regain admission to the center. Your cooperation in presenting proper identification is expected at all times.

Memberships

  • Student memberships: Students who have paid fees at registration will have access to the Recreation Center by showing their current validated MTSU ID card (effective only for the semester in which the student is enrolled). Summer memberships for students not enrolled during the summer terms but registered for fall are $50. Half-summer memberships are $25 (from May graduation until June 30 or from July 1 until fall classes begin).
  • Faculty and staff memberships: Current faculty and staff have access to the Recreation Center upon presentation of their faculty and staff ID cards.
  • Alumni memberships: MTSU alumni may purchase memberships to the Recreation Center by paying appropriate membership fees.
  • Family member memberships: Members may purchase memberships for eligible members of their immediate family and/or dependents. Family is defined as a spouse and any children or dependents under the age of 21.
  • Affiliate memberships: Affiliates, defined as individuals who interface directly with the University, may purchase memberships to the Student Recreation Center by paying the appropriate fees.

Guest Policy

All Recreation Center members are entitled to bring up to two guests per day to the facility. A fee of $5.00 per guest will be assessed. All guests must be at least 16 years of age or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests. Guests must be registered at the front desk by the Recreation Center member.

Reservation of Areas or Rooms

No organized activities except those sponsored by Campus Recreation will be allowed at the Recreation Center without special permission. The Recreation Center is available for shared rental (during hours of operation with members) or exclusive rental (during non-operating hours for private group use). Most areas in the Recreation Center and the surrounding recreation fields may be reserved. Groups wishing to reserve an area or outdoor field(s) must submit a facility reservation application. Rental rates are based upon the degree of affiliation with MTSU, type of rental (shared versus exclusive), staffing requirements, and setup costs.

Facility requests are prioritized as follows:

  1. MTSU Campus Recreation
  2. MTSU student organizations
  3. MTSU departments/conferences
  4. Non-university

Reservation Procedures

A facility reservation application may be obtained from the front desk or main office at the Recreation Center. Completed facility reservation applications must be submitted to the Department of Campus Recreation by mail (P.O. Box 556, Murfreesboro), fax (615-898-5568), or in person at the Recreation Center.

All applications must be received at least two weeks prior to the requested date. Filing an application does not guarantee approval of the request. Upon approval, a facility rental contract must be signed and a $25 nonrefundable processing fee must be paid to confirm the reservation. The remaining fees must be paid in full on the day of the scheduled event.
