MTSU encourages all students, faculty, and staff to take positive steps to prevent the likelihood of their falling victim to a theft of personal or institutional property.
Belongings should be placed in locked lockers near the bookstore and in the Recreation Center while using these facilities.
Doors to offices and residence hall rooms should be locked if not occupied. Similarly, automobiles should be secured to prevent easy access. Expensive car stereos, CB radios, and radar detectors should not be left in cars that will be unattended. Bicycles should be chained to one of the racks provided near residence halls and academic buildings.
Valuable jewelry, keepsakes, and other irreplaceable items should be left at home. Money, billfolds, and purses should be kept in secure areas when not in use. All personal property should be engraved with the owner's name and identifying number, when possible.
Students should be careful to put their names and other identifying marks in their textbooks. Textbooks should not be left unattended, especially in the following areas: The bookdrop in the Phillips Bookstore, the bookdrop in Corlew Hall cafeteria, the JUB cafeteria, and the Walker Library.
Stolen books should be reported to Keathley University Center 130 as soon as possible. All other instances of theft should be reported to Public Safety.
