Memphis, TN
Hi, I'm Justin Hart from Memphis, Tennessee and I'm one! I'm one of Tennessee's best and I want you to be one, too.
Because of the reputation of the College of Mass Communication, I knew Middle Tennessee State University was the place I wanted to study Electronic Media Communication. From the moment I took my campus tour, I fell in love with the school. That feeling only intensified during CUSTOMS when I really saw MTSU as a city within itself. The Student Orientation Assistants (SOAs) made me feel at home and helped me to see all the groups and organizations of which I could join and be a part. And that feeling has only continued. My friends at other schools tell me how much they miss Memphis, but the students and professors at MTSU make campus feel like home to me. I love that.
One thing I have done since I came to campus was get involved. I make sure that I am involved in all my classes and that I stay focused on my academics. I like that my professors acknowledge the amount of effort I put into my academics and that they know me by name. That is really important to me and will be more important when I start to look for internships in my major. From the first day I visited, I have received good advice about my program and classes in general. I know my professors in and out of my major are available to me out of class whenever I need them. I can call or e-mail them, or even stop by their offices to ask a question. They want me to succeed.
As involved as I am with my major, I am just as involved out of classroom. I have been a member of the Student Government Association, the Gospel Choir, MPAC, and of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. I really love singing - it is my passion. I have been able to take that passion and use it to get involved on campus. I was the first runner-up in the MTSU Idol competition. And I have auditioned for American Idol twice. The first time, I didn't make it past the first round. But the second time, I decided not to take it as seriously and have some fun with it. I made it to the executive producer round, the round right before performing in front of the celebrity judges. I like taking risks like that - I love performing in front of people. Ultimately, I would love to be an on-air reporter in the entertainment industry combining my performing skills with the education I am receiving at MTSU.
Both my parents and I feel very blessed that I was able to attend MTSU. I was looking at several other schools and for one reason or another, we decided against them and for Middle Tennessee. I know my parents are very pleased I am here. They come to my performances and are very excited about the opportunities I have had. And because I have stayed in-state, they do not have to struggle financially to afford such a quality education.
MTSU has given me the chance to learn and live my dreams. It can do the same for you. Come join us at MTSU and be one of Tennessee's best.
