Wartrace, TN
Hi, I'm Mary Michael Jett from Wartrace, Tennessee and I'm one! I'm one of Tennessee's best and I want you to be one, too.
I graduated from Cascade High School and when the time came to choose a college, there was no other choice for me than Middle Tennessee State University. I came to MTSU because it is the one way for me to have the life I imagine myself living. I really could not see myself at any other school. For me, MTSU has it all-the academic program I want to study in the right location at the right price.
While at MTSU, I am studying Concrete Industry Management. Not only is that one of the top programs at Middle Tennessee, it is also a way for me to reach my ultimate career -becoming a missionary. I will be able to use my skills in the concrete industry to go into regions and areas that really need both my professional and spiritual help. Combined with a minor in Spanish, I will be able to affect change where ever I go.
I am also choosing to work while I am at school. I work in the Admissions Office. I enjoy getting the opportunity to speak with prospective students and their families about all the great programs at MTSU-like aerospace, business, recording industry, and nursing. We have so much to offer academically that there really is something for everyone here. And even though MTSU is a big school that has the resources to offer such excellent programs, it still doesn't feel overwhelming. There are many opportunities to get involved and to get to know people that it makes it feel like a much smaller school. Every day I see people I know on campus. Whether I am walking across Walnut Grove or eating in the KUC, I see people I either knew before coming to MTSU or those I have met since living and studying here.
I really love living on campus. I can be in class five minutes after leaving my room and I never have to worry about parking! All the girls I live with are really great-especially my neighbors. And I don't have to think about cooking-my meal plan takes care of all that. Living on campus puts me right in the middle of everything. I can use the library, a 24-hour computer lab, or play intramural sports any day of the week. Opportunities to try new things are literally right outside my door. The other night, I actually ended up in a Zumba class at the Rec Center.
My classes are great. I really enjoy all my professors-they are incredibly friendly and helpful. If I ever need to speak to any of them outside of class, they have all made efforts to be available to their students. Before I came to MTSU, I really worried about my classes. I thought my classes were going to be huge and no one was going to know me. But that's just not the case at MTSU. My biggest class only has 50 people in it and that professor is on top of everything. She makes sure we all know what is going on and that we understand what she is teaching. And the best part is, she is the norm and NOT the exception to the rule. The professors here really care about their students.
I am so glad I made the choice to attend MTSU. In the classroom, I know I am learning what I will need to be successful throughout my career. Out of the classroom, I know I am learning the skills I'll need to be successful in life. And you will, too. Come to MTSU, be one of Tennessee's best, and learn for life.
