Advising
In addition to the academic assistance provided by the faculty, MTSU has 12 academic college advisors-at least one per undergraduate college. Advisors counsel students regarding correct college courses, make referrals to faculty major advisors, assist students during CUSTOMS and registration activities. MTSU's Student Athlete Enhancement Center is the academic support program for more than 300 students participating in 17 NCAA sports. Program personnel monitor each student's progress toward a degree and are committed to the academic growth of our athletes.
Refund Policy
Maintenance fees, debt service fees, and out-of-state tuition will be refunded as follows:
- A full (100 percent) refund will be provided for courses cancelled by the University.
- A full (100 percent) refund will be provided to students who register and withdraw from all classes prior to the first day of class. Students who register and drop classes prior to the first day of class will be credited at 100 percent. See the current schedule book for refund and schedule adjustment dates.
- A full (100 percent) refund will be provided in case of death.
Maintenance fees, debt service fees, out-of-state tuition, general access fees, and residence hall rent will be refunded at the rates of 75 percent or 25 percent to students who officially withdraw from the University prior to the dates specified in the class schedule book which is published each semester. The same refund schedule applies to students who drop below full-time to an hourly load. The percentage then applies to the difference between the new fees calculated on an hourly basis and actual fees paid.
The University refund policy is based entirely upon the official date of the withdrawal or drop, which would result in a refund. Refunds beyond the specified date or percentage will not be made for reasons such as employment conflicts, health or medical problems, moving out of town, or other reasons which are beyond the University's control or responsibility.
Important Refund Deadline Information: Students must be sure their requests are processed before MIDNIGHT on the deadline date! Even though PipelineMT/WebMT is usually available until 2:00 a.m., requests processed after 11:59 p.m. are considered the next day's activity and will be too late to meet the deadline date to qualify for indicated refunds.
Refunds will be processed beginning approximately two weeks after the end of each refund period. It takes several weeks to process all the refunds. The University will offset against proposed refunds any amount owed by the student to the University. The refund for students who receive financial aid will be returned to the financial aid program and/or applied to the balances owed the University.
Refunds/withdrawal from class: Students who drop or withdraw from classes will still have a balance due under the Deferred Payment Plan. Fees are adjusted based on the drop or withdrawal date. The refund percentage is NOT applied to the amount of payment, but rather as a percentage adjustment of total fees. A refund would be issued to the student only if the newly adjusted amount of fees is less than the amount that has been paid by the student. Withdrawal from classes does not negate the student's responsibility to pay the balance of fees after the semester has begun.
For example: If total fees are $2,000.00 and the student has paid $1,000.00, and then withdraws in the 25% refund period, the new fee total is $2,000.00 less 25% ($500.00), which is $1,500.00. Since the student has paid only $1,000.00, the student would still owe $500.00 and would not be eligible for a refund.

Withdrawals from the University
Ceasing to attend classes without withdrawing will result in a grade of F; therefore it is imperative that students speak with their professor(s) immediately if they encounter personal or academic difficulties which disrupt class attendance. They should also consult with a counselor in the Guidance Services or with the Coordinator of University Withdrawals for support and guidance as early as possible. Grades, financial aid, and housing potentially can be affected by simply dropping out without officially withdrawing. Early intervention and action reduces complications for all concerned.
Total withdrawal from the University means to drop all courses for that semester. Please refer to the class schedule book for all deadlines associated with withdrawing. A student who registers for classes and decides not to attend MTSU for the term should access PipelineMT/WebMT to withdraw from the classes selected during the registration. Withdrawals should be processed prior to the first day of class in order to receive a 100 percent refund. Once classes begin, withdrawals may be processed on PipelineMT/WebMT and are subject to the refund deadlines listed in the class schedule book.
If extreme extenuating circumstances necessitate a student's withdrawal from the University after the seventh week of the term, an exception may be made. A grade of W may be recorded. This may occur if extenuating circumstances are identified by and originate with the University physician, counselors at Guidance Services, or the Coordinator of University Withdrawals, and there is written concurrence by the faculty member.
