Financial Aid Timeline
Use this timeline as your guide throughout the financial aid process at MTSU. Take the time to note events as they occur so that you have a record of when you complete them. Also, look ahead to plan for upcoming events. Planning is a very important key in your financial success while in college.
|Mid-Junior year in high school||Begin the scholarship search process. Collect information from university scholarship offices, the Internet and your high school guidance counselor. Be sure to note deadlines and criteria!|
|Mid-Senior year in high school||Submit your admission application along with ACT scores, 6th semester high school transcripts, GPA and class rank to the Admissions Office by December 1 to determine eligibility for scholarships.|
|January 1||FAFSA available for the upcoming academic year. Complete the application as soon as possible after this date and after your and your parent's tax returns are complete.|
|February 1||Scholarship Application deadline for Transfers.|
|February 15||Scholarship application deadline for most Foundation Scholarships; Deadlines vary by department and may range from December 1 to April 15.|
|April||Scholarship and Financial Aid awards are posted on the student's RaiderNetaccount when the student's information is complete. Awards are posted continually as FAFSA data is received and completed. Completion is often dependent on the student turning in requested information and documents. Students should accept any desired aid on their RaiderNet account.|
|Summer||Students should be returning required documentation to the Financial Aid Office. (Title IV authorization form, Lottery statement of understanding, any other requested information). Direct depositinformation should be submitted to the Business Office via RaiderNet.|
|July 15||Any private scholarship award letters and checks should be sent to the Scholarship Department in time to appear on the student's bill.|
|Late July||Fall billing statements are emailed to MTSU email addresses.|
|Mid October||Scholarship applications for current students available on-line. Students can generally begin applying for MTSU Foundation Scholarships approximately one month later.|
|Late November||Spring billing statements are emailed to MTSU email addresses.|
|December 1||Scholarship deadline for Incoming Freshman and Currently Enrolled Students.|
|January||Begin timeline again for next year's aid.|
|Mid Spring||Submit Summer Loan Request sheet and Request for Funds to the Financial Aid Office.|
|Late April||Summer billing statements are emailed to MTSU email addresses.|
General Overview of Important Dates

- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed each year. The priority date to apply for federal financial aid is March 1. Completing the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 is strongly encouraged.
- Funding for the Federal Pell Grant and the Federal Student Loan Programs are not impacted by the priority date.
- Due to limited funding for campus-based programs (e.g., Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, Federal Work Study, and Perkins Loan), awards are given until funds are depleted.
- The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) awards the state grant on a first-come, first-served basis (awards are given until funds are depleted). Completing the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 is strongly encouraged.

First-Time Freshmen Academic Scholarships
Apply for admission, submit official ACT or SAT test scores, and submit an official sixth-semester high school transcript (through the end of the junior year) by December 1.
For Buchanan Fellowships, submit a Buchanan Scholarship Application to the Honors College by December 1.
Transfer Student Scholarships
Apply for admission by February 15.

Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program (TELS)
The FAFSA must be processed by September 1 for students enrolling in the Fall semester or by February 1 for students enrolling in the Spring or Summer term. Please submit the completed FAFSA by April 1, if possible.
