Guidelines for the Curriculum Integration Grant
Three summer grants in the amount of $1,800 each are available for the integration of the experiences and perspectives of women into the curriculum. The grants are intended for use in the summer of 2010 by tenured or tenure-track faculty members who wish to pursue one of the following projects:
- revision of a course
- revision of a general education course for Study Abroad program
- creation of a new course
- re-conceptualization of a current minor
- creation of a new minor
Proposals will be reviewed by selected members serving on the Academic Issues Subcommittee of the President's Commission on the Status of Women. Successful proposals have often incorporated innovative teaching techniques and integrated women's concerns with issues of race/ethnicity, class and sexual orientation. Priority will be given to courses that can be implemented within two years and those that are developed or revised for the undergraduate curriculum.
Applications for this grant must include the following: (1) completed grant application form; (2) brief description of project; (3) statement of goals and objectives; (4) a timeline for completion and implementation of the project (for instance, those proposing a new course should indicate when the course would be offered to students; similarly, those proposing the creation of a minor should indicate when that minor will be available to students); (5) a tentative bibliography including materials on the theories and methods of curriculum integration; and (6) a curriculum vitae. Faculty members who wish to revise courses or minors should also state how their course/minor will change as a result of the revisions.
Applicants should send seven (7) completed grant proposals (original and six copies) to Dr. Samantha Cantrell, Office of Research Services, PO Box 124. Proposals will be reviewed by selected members serving on the Academic Issues Subcommittee of the President's Commission on the Status of Women. The deadline for submission of proposals is January 19, 2010.
Grant recipients will be required to present the completed project at the Fall Commission meeting to be held at the beginning of the Fall 2010 semester. Recipients also will be required to provide the committee with a copy of the finished syllabus, course proposal, minor proposal, or revised minor no later than that fall meeting.
