Upon admission to the Ph.D. in HP Program the
student will be assigned an advisor. The decision of
advisor is based on the student's area of specialization
and the faculty member's area of expertise, and the faculty
member's current advising load. The purpose of advising is
to assist the student in (a) selecting course work, (b) meeting
additional provisions for admission which may have been
stipulated upon acceptance, and (c) selecting the Chair of the
dissertation committee. The advisor may hold either
doctoral or graduate faculty status. If the advisor is to
serve as chair, the student's major professor of the
dissertation committee, he/she must hold doctoral graduate
status. The advisor assists the student in writing the
degree plan.
