The Giving Process
Anyone wishing to send donations to our department to be applied toward student scholarships or special project funding, please observe the following:

1. Make checks (NOT CASH) payable to:

Middle Tennessee State University, Department of Physics & Astronomy (or MTSU Physics)

~OR~

Middle Tennessee State University, Foundation Office (or MTSU Foundation)

2. Enclose with the check a brief note explaining how the money should be allocated, making sure to specify the PHYSICS department and THE AWARD OR SCHOLARSHIP OR PROJECT, if applicable. On the check face, in the comments area, please write the name of the award or project, and the department (PHYSICS).

3. MAIL TO (either address will work):

3. Once your check is processed by the Foundation Office, you should receive an acknowledgement letter. If you do not receive acknowledgement within a month, please contact the Foundation Office.

Giving Opportunities
We have identified a number of areas of need that could be specified if you choose targeted giving.

• $2,000 -- Faculty & student recognition/appreciation banquet
• $5,000 -- Travel fund for Society of Physics Students; Faculty Bonus for most innovative contribution
• $10,000 -- Furnishings for student commons space in WPS
• $25,000 -- Student Scholar Award endowment
• $50,000 -- New research instrumentation
• $100,000 -- Heliostat (optics that brings viewable solar image into building for teaching & research)
• $250,000 -- Planetarium projection system
• $1,000,000 and up --- Endowed chair for physics research or pedagogy
