I am Rebecca Shults Harris a native of Southeast Texas, (Tyler County), but have lived in Murfreesboro for many years. I am married, have two children, who are Physical Education Majors and graduates of MTSU. I am also a graduate of MTSU with a degree in Liberal Arts and an emphasis in Early Childhood. Prior to starting to MTSU in 1998 I attended Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. Over the years, I have done substitute teaching, and have been involved with extra curriculum activities such as: Odyssey of the Mind, UIL Judge for 2nd 4th grade, Athletic Booster Club, Agriculture Booster Club, and a volunteer for the Pregnancy Support Center and Greenhouse Ministries.

My greatest joy and challenge came when my grandson Zaden was born in 11/ 21/06 and was in Vanderbilt for the first 7 months of his life. It was a time of many challenges but a "hands on " opportunity to work very closely with a special needs child. It is my philosophy that every child should be viewed as a unique person with separate needs and abilities and have their own individual pattern and timing of growth.

As a teacher, I believe that one of the most important aspects of teaching is to recognize and support those different levels. Patience and understanding, along with strong parental involvement and interaction between parent and teacher promotes the quality of each child’s learning ability. Since starting with Project Help in February 2008, I have had the pleasure of being a part of the latest addition; the Yellow Room which opened at the Fairview location on the MTSU campus. We have seen so much progress in our children, and although it is sad to see them go, it is a proud feeling to know that they have achieved many of their goals while attending the program, and will be transitioning to the next educational phase of their life.
