How to Apply to the M.A. in Public History Program

Admission Requirements
    a. an earned bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
    b. an acceptable grade point average in all college work.
    c. completion of at least 18 hours of undergraduate history courses.
    d. completion of the Graduate Record Exam with acceptable scores.

Modifications to above requirements may be made with the permission of the department's Director of Graduate Studies and Graduate Admissions Committee.

To apply for admission to the program:
Please be aware that a completed application packet includes all of the elements listed below.  Application deadline for the MA is March 15th for Fall admission, October 15th for Spring.  The History Department does not consider graduate students for summer admission.

Submit all required items directly to the College of Graduate Studies at the following address:

    1. application form (now submitted electronically).   See: Graduate Admissions Application
    2. official GRE scores.
    3. official transcripts.
    4. letter of intent, explaining why you wish to pursue graduate education in history and why you wish to pursue those studies at MTSU.
    5. writing sample (preferably a lengthy research paper that demonstrates your writing and research skills).
    6. three letters of recommendation.

Additionally, if a departmental assistantship is desired, the application should be sent to Ms. Slager.
