WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR ADMISSION TO A CAS PROGRAM?
Students currently enrolled in the M.A. Public History program, both thesis and non-thesis
options, are automatically eligible to add a CAS to their overall degree program.
MTSU alumni who hold an M.A. in Public History are eligible to enroll in certificate
courses upon admission to the university through the College of Graduate Studies and
with approval of the History Department's Director of Graduate Studies and Director
of Public History.
Applicants who hold a master's degree in public history (including preservation studies,
museum studies, archival studies, etc.) from another university may be considered
for admission to a CAS program upon admission to the university through the College
of Graduate Studies and after presenting evidence that degree coursework, possibly
in combination with professional experience, is equivalent to their the thesis or
non-thesis option of MTSU's M.A. in Public History. The Director of Graduate Study
and Director of Public History, in consultation with the faculty member who specializes
in the certificate category the applicant seeks, will determine eligibility based
on prior coursework and professional experience. Applicants who lack no more than
6 credit hours of equivalent coursework may be considered for conditional admission
with a requirement to complete specific additional courses in their CAS program.
