MT inducts 14 into Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society

photoMurfreesboro, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's athletic department inducted 14 student-athletes into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society on April 14 at the Rose and Emmett Kennon Hall of Fame.

There were 10 female and four male student-athletes inducted into the Blue Raider's 10th class - the largest since 16 were welcomed in 2010. Soccer had four inductees, followed by two each from baseball and softball. Football, men's tennis, track & field, women's basketball, women's golf and volleyball all had a student-athlete honored.

Soccer's inductees included Taylor Kirk, Kelsie Roberts, Katinka Stenberg and Paige Terlizzi. Keaton Baker and Andrew Cash from baseball were inducted, as well as Laura Dukes and Samantha Nieves from softball.

Other inductees included: Yannick Born (men's tennis), Haley Cothran (women's golf), Ailime de Freitas ((volleyball), Kelsey Jackson (track & field), Travis McMillian (football/track) and MacKenzie Sells (women's basketball).

Chi Alpha Sigma is a non-profit organization established to recognize college students who earn a varsity letter in at least one sport while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA throughout their junior and senior years. The goal of the organization is to recognize outstanding academic achievement by intercollegiate athletes.

Middle Tennessee has now inducted a total of 129 student-athletes into the society after just 10 years of eligibility. In 2005, the first year Blue Raider student-athletes could be inducted, a total of 26 were recognized. Middle Tennessee placed 10 student-athletes into the society in 2006, 15 more in 2007, 10 in 2008, nine in 2009, 16 in 2010, 13 in 2011, four in 2012, 12 in 2013 and 14 in 2014.
