RAIDERS SHINE IN LATEST APR SCORES
MEN'S & WOMEN'S GOLF HAVE PERFECT SCORES; FOOTBALL TIED FOR 7TH BEST NATIONALLY
@MTAthletics
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - For the sixth consecutive year, all 17 of Middle Tennessee's athletic teams earned
a multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) of over 930 as the National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA) released its annual report on Wednesday.
The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from
the 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, and 2013-14 academic years. The Blue Raiders had 10
of 17 sports with a 970 or better with men's and women's golf both touting a perfect
grade of 1000.
Football had an impressive multi-year score of 973 but its 2013-14 score of 992 tied
for the seventh highest in the country (Alabama 1000, Illinois 1000, Michigan 1000,
Wisconsin 1000, Northwestern 994, Minnesota 994, and Army 992). The 992 total also
ranks as the highest in program history, besting the previous mark of 983 set in 2010-11.
The Blue Raiders also had six teams record perfect scores of 1000 for 2013-14. They
include baseball, women's basketball, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf,
and volleyball.
Every Division I sports team calculates it's APR each academic year. Scholarship student-athletes
each semester receive one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in
school or graduating. Teams scoring below certain thresholds can face consequences,
including practice restrictions and playing season reductions. Rates are an average
of the past four years' performance. National aggregates are based on all teams with
usable data at the time of analysis.
In order to compete in the 2015-16 postseason, teams must achieve either a 930 multi-year
APR or a 940 average over the most recent two years.
Three teams were recognized by the NCAA last week for earning Public Recognition Awards,
based on their most recent multi-year APR. These awards are given each year to teams
with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. For the fifth consecutive year men's
golf was honored, while women's golf and women's basketball also picked up awards.
