photoIRVING, Texas - Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky named the 14 recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Awards today and Middle Tennessee's Leighton Gasque made the prestigious list.

Gasque, who ranks second all-time at MT with 22 quarterback sacks, completed his four-year career at linebacker this past season for the Blue Raiders. In addition to being voted as team captain, he was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. Gasque earned his Bachelor of Science in aerospace with a business administration minor, and he participated in the NASA Internship Program at the Ames Research Center in California over the summer of 2014. A native of Powder Springs, Georgia, Gasque is continuing his education at Middle Tennessee in aviation administration.

This is the seventh year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November 2008. The conference annually awards the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarships to graduates as selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
