FOUR NAMED USTFCCCA ALL-ACADEMIC INDIVIDUALS

photoNEW ORLEANS – Four Middle Tennessee track & field athletes were named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Individuals today as announced by the organization. 
 
838 women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with Josphine Kiptebeny being the lone Blue Raider to earn the accolade.  John Ampomah, Atsu Nyamadi and Phillip Smith earned the honors and were three of the 529 men.
 
Kiptebeny competed in cross country, indoor and outdoor track for MT. She was a member of the 2014 women's cross country team, which captured its first conference championship in program history. The Eldoret, Kenya native majors in community and public health.
 
Ampomah, a criminal justice major, and Nyamadi, a biology major, represented Middle Tennessee at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Ampomah placed second in the javelin and holds the MT record in the event. The rising senior never finished lower than second in the javelin during the 2015 campaign and was named 2015 C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Year.
 
Nyamadi, the MT record holder in the decathlon, finished ninth in the decathlon and set a new personal-best with 7,567 points in the event at the NCAA  Championships. At the NCAA, the Accra, Ghana native grabbed his highest finishes in the discus and the javelin, placing fourth in each event.
 
Smith, who majors in finance, competed in the long, high and triple jumps. The Clarksville, Tenn., native helped MT at the C-USA Indoor Championships with a seventh place finish in the triple jump, while at the outdoor conference championship, he cleared a season-best in the high jump for seventh.
