RONO NAMED TO C-USA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
@MTAthletics
IRVING, Texas - Hillary Rono is one-of-six male runners that were selected to the Conference USA Cross
Country All-Academic Team today as announced by the conference office.
"It is exciting when athletes excel in the classroom and in athletics," said associate
head coach Keith Vroman. "I remember having a conversation with him his freshman year about boosting his
grades and it paid off. Rono exhibits how athletics and academics go hand in hand.
He is a leader in the classroom and was our number one runner at the C-USA Cross Country
Championships."
Rono, a sophomore majoring in information systems, has finished in the top-20 in every
race for the Blue Raiders this season.
The Eldoret, Kenya native finished a team-best fifth at the Conference USA Championships
and earned First Team All-Conference USA honors.
In the final tune-up before the C-USA Championships, Rono won his first race of the
year at the Front Runner Invitational, while also claiming a season-best 15:04.20
time on a 5K course.
The sophomore tallied two more top-10 finishes, placing second at the Belmont Opener
and eighth at the PowerAde Invitational.
