NAVARRO NAMED TO SCHOLAR ALL-REGION THIRD TEAM
 

photo of Sydney NavarroMURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Behind a breakout season, junior defender Sydney Navarrohas been named to the United Soccer Coaches, formerly the NSCAA, Scholar All-South Region Third Team on Tuesday.

"Sydney had a great year and continues to work hard in training and in the classroom," said Head Coach Aston Rhoden. "I'm really happy for her and what she accomplished this year on the field and in the classroom."

The Claremont, Calif. native boasts a 3.59 GPA in Liberal Studies and is set to graduate in May 2019. Navarro plans on using her degree to become an elementary school teacher in the future.

Navarro is the 18th Blue Raider in program history to earn the honor, and the first since 2015.

She was named to the All-Conference Second Team this season following a dominant backline performance. Navarro has started in 48 consecutive games and appeared in 49 straight, dating back to her freshman year.

Navarro also assisted the Blue Raiders offensively this season, recording her first two career goals as she played all but four minutes on the field.

Conference USA had five other selections to the Scholar All-South Region teams.
