FOUR SELECTED TO C-USA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

photoIRVING, Texas - Atarah Abdullah-Muhammad (English/3.862), Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad (Nursing/3.724), Agnes Abu (Community and Public Health/3.60) and Atsu Nyamadi (Liberal Studies/3.276) were selected to the Conference USA Track & Field All-Academic Teams, as announced by the conference office today. The results used in nomination are for both the indoor and outdoor awards.
 
Nyamadi, the lone male athlete selected, is a repeat honoree and was selected to the 2015 all-academic team. The Ghana native competed in the heptathlon indoors and the decathlon outdoors, winning the events at the Conference USA Indoor Championship and Conference USA Outdoor Championship, respectively.
 
Nyamadi also placed third in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump at the C-USA Indoor Championships, while at the outdoor championships, he placed sixth in the javelin and eighth in the triple jump.
 
A. Abdullah-Muhammad netted the highest GPA of the honorees, recording a 3.862 in English. Abdullah-Muhammad tallied seven top-10 finishes  indoor, while also adding four top-10 finishes outdoor. The Cleveland, Tennessee native also placed seventh in the long jump at the C-USA Outdoor Championships.
 
Atarah Abdullah-Muhammad's sister, Qetuwrah Abdullah-Muhammad was also selected to the 2016 C-USA All-Academic Team.
 
Q. Abdullah-Muhammad showcased her talents at the C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, placing fourth in the heptathlon and third in the long jump.
 
The Tennessee native earned personal-bests in 2016 in the 100-meter hurdles (14.93), high jump (1.70m), long jump (6.06m), 800 meter, (2:25.53), shot put (9.18m), javelin (34.37m) and heptathlon (5026 pts).
 
Abu, who was a newcomer to the Blue Raiders in 2015-16, made her impact felt immediately, finishing in the top-10 in every race she competed in. At the C-USA Indoor Championship, the Ghana native placed second in the 800 meter and fourth in the mile.
 
At the outdoor C-USA Championships in Murfreesboro, Abu was crowned the individual champion in the 800 meter and 1,500 meter. She also aided the 4x400-meter relay team to a fourth place finish.
