Scholarship Application Deadline: February 15

EdScholar Scholarship Application

The Edscholar Scholarship is sponsored by EdAmerica and EdFinancial. Twelve (12) scholarships of $5000 per year awarded annually.To be considered, an incoming freshman must have an ACT composite score of 23 or higher (a 1070 or higher SAT score) OR at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average (GPA) through the end of his or her junior year of high school. Must be a Tennessee resident and have financial need according to the FAFSA. In addition to requirements indicated above, applicants must submit a FAFSA and an Edscholar Scholarship Application (see below) by February 15 to be considered. Recipients and their parents will be invited to attend an award dinner in October 2008.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Incoming Freshman
  • Tennessee Resident
  • Minimum Academic Requirements
    • 3.25 GPA for 7 semesters OR
    • ACT Composite 23 or SAT 1070
    • Students will be scored using both GPA and ACT, but may qualify with either.
  • Financial Need (Must file FAFSA by February 15)
  • Community Service and Leadership
  • Weight of Criteria by College
  • 2 letters of recommendation (submitted online—You will need to have the names and email addresses of your references available when you apply!)

Applications will be available online beginning December 1 and must be submitted by February 15.

How To Apply

Set up a ScholarX account, if you have not already done so.

  •      Go to https://mtsu.scholarships.nelnet.net

  •      Under “First Time Users”, click on “Create an Account Here”.

  •      Set up a log-in, using your MTSU email address if you have been assigned one.

  •      Remember your password for future use! Each year, you will apply using ScholarX and will need to remember the email address and password you used.

Apply for the EdScholar Scholarship.

  • Applications will be available in early December.

  • Complete the application marked “Edscholar Scholarship”.

You will be asked to submit information about your activities, community service, and leadership. You will also need to submit essays on a few topics. Visit our Helpful Hints page or suggestions on how to use your answers to get the attention of the judging committee!

You will be asked for the names and email addresses of at least two personal references. Please be prepared to provide this information. Recommendation letters will be completed online by your references. (Hint: You may want to provide more than two references, in case one is not able to respond!)

Be careful to provide correct information for each question! Incorrect info or a question left blank can prevent you from being considered!

  • Applications are due by February 15.

Tie it up.

  • After you have submitted the EdScholar application, click “My Scholarship Portal”. There, you can review your application by clicking on “Review your answers”.

  • Click on “Printer-Friendly Version” to view and print your application. Keep a copy of your application in a folder for Very Important Paperwork for at least one year.
