International Baccalaureate Scholarship

Middle Tennessee State University is dedicated to promoting academic excellence. To demonstrate that commitment, scholarships are offered to incoming freshmen who will graduate from high school with an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. Beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year, the International Baccalaureate Scholarship will recognize incoming freshmen who complete the diploma program, which includes a rigorous academic curriculum as well as a Creativity, Action, and Service component. Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA after the junior year and must be verified by the high school* as expected to graduate with an International Baccalaureate diploma.


Students who are interested in the International Baccalaureate Scholarship must have an admission application, confirmation of expected IB status*, and an official sixth-semester transcript on file in the Admissions Office. Priority consideration will be given to students who apply for admission and submit IB confirmation* and transcripts by December 1, 2009. However, students who apply for admission by February 15, 2010, may be considered if funding is available.


Applicants must be US citizens. Permanent residents may be eligible for the International Baccalaureate Scholarship if they have a valid Alien Registration Number and will graduate from a US high school; permanent residency will be verified through the FAFSA, which must be filed annually at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Award Amount

Recipients of the International Baccalaureate Scholarship at MTSU will receive $1000 per year for four years. Recipients may receive the scholarship in addition to another academic scholarship from MTSU, other than a Buchanan Fellowship. A student’s total aid including scholarships cannot exceed his or her budgeted Cost of Attendance.  For more information, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 615-898-2830.


The award will be available for fall and spring semesters only and will be renewable for up to eight semesters, dependent on academic requirements and available funding.

*IB status will be requested from the high school counselor for students attending a Tennessee high school which offers an IB program. Students attending a high school outside of Tennessee must submit a completed International Baccalaureate Diploma Verification Form by December 1, 2009.
