 Brenton Andrews

Brenton AndrewsWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

I am running for Senator of the College of Business and Applied Sciences because I want to make a positive contribution to MTSU. I was a Senator last year, and I continually made it a mission to do volunteer work around campus. I enjoy making this campus a better environment for academic growth and social growth. I have enjoyed being a senator, but I have always taken my position seriously. I have done my part to prevent fallacies from encroaching the welfare of the student body. I voted on various bills in the best interest of the students in the College of Business. I vote in the interest of the entire student body not just the rich students or the poor students. I do not favor senior's opinions any more than freshmen's opinions. All students' opinions are equal in every decision I make.

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

If I were elected to serve in SGA for a second term I would continue to vote on the same principles that I have been voting on. I always vote against bills that concern raising tuition, restricting smoking, and the raising of printing costs. All of these issues concern all of the student's freedoms and privileges and I do not feel that it is right for the governing body to make restrictions or injustices upon them. It is almost all but too late to stop the ban on campus smoking, but it is not too late to lessen the punishments for violating the ban. I do not smoke myself, but I feel as Americans we have a right to do as we please. I take all other bills with a grain of salt and try to make the best decision based on rationality, my morals, and what is in the best interest of all the students.

Benton BeasleyWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

I would like to be elected to the Student Government Association Senate because I believe it is one of the greatest tools for change at the student body's disposal. Acting as a voice for the student to the administration the SGA of MTSU can make a great impact on campus student life. I think that my approachable personality and drive to better my surroundings makes me a great candidate to represent the student body.

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

As a SGA Senator I would push for greater student interaction, by having more town hall type function and student surveys, to try and get a better understand of what the student body wants. I will only push for legislation the positively effects the student body and further advances the over all experience of students during their degree work. As well I will push to reassess many areas of MTSU's spending as to keep cost down with a more effective budget.

Haley CobbWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

Servant leadership is a concept and lifestyle that I have openly adopted over the last couple of years.  I can think of no better way to serve the MTSU student body than as a SGA Senator.  My last two years of service to the Student Government Association have afforded me an in-depth look into the needs of MTSU students, faculty, staff, and alumni.  I would like to continue my service in hopes that I will be effective and efficient in delivering the desired results to all constituents.

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

Students of Middle Tennessee State University are blessed to have an organization such as the Student Government Association to interpret, present, and improve the quality of life for our students.  If chosen to serve as an SGA Senator, I will strive to complete my part in that inspiring task of bettering the college experience for others.  I believe actively listening and seeking solutions to problems is the best method to achieve change.  I will take it upon myself to ask students about their perspective college experiences and find what would be within my power to improve.

Brandon CoxWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

I am running for Senator of Basic and Applied Sciences because I believe I can make a positive impact to on this campus. I have great ideas to improve MTSU's community and student body. I just like being activity on campus as I am in the Band of Blue. I look towards the future and the future is bright for this campus. I see MTSU as my second home and it's filled with Lighting and fellow Blue Raiders alike. I want to represent and serve my fellow Blue Raiders to make a difference. Because I know I am TRUE BLUE!

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

If I was chosen to serve on SGA, the first thing I would do is listen. I would listen to the people I serve and that is the Student Body. I believe the best way improve life on campus is to look at the culture. MTSU is very diverse and finding ways to grow the culture and bring the student body together can make the quality life improve on campus. I believe if I was chosen for SGA I would make a big impact on this campus. Because I know in my heart I am TRUE BLUE.

 Cierra Howard

Cierra HowardWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

I am running for the senator position because I want to become more involved around campus, and also give back to an institution that helped me through this year. I also feel as though I have outstanding skills to enhance and influence student life on this campus. I am confident that my eagerness to assist would make me an exceptional part of this staff. Therefore, I believe I am a strong candidate for this position.

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

Our student life is amazing already, and we have many students involved, but I think creating more activities could get even more students that are not already involved more involved. Also Informing the students about the events gives students more awareness of the upcoming events on campus.

 Caleb Hughes

Caleb HughesWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

I am interested in running for a senate position for a couple reasons. First, I am seeking to get all around more involved with MTSU organizations. At the moment, I am a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. I hope to become affiliated with other groups in the future, ones both pertaining and unrelated to my major of aerospace. Secondly, I have a passion for new ideas. I think creatively and can bring fresh opinions and suggestions to the table. Thirdly, I love my major. Even though my particular concentration (pro pilot) is tentative, I can be a good representation of the aerospace and overall Basic and Applied Science field.

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

While I love the people here at MTSU, I believe the social scene can ultimately be better. Being Greek, I do feel like I experience some of the best opportunities the school has to offer. However, I think new ideas can be implemented to get the entire student body more involved. I would plan on sharing interesting and exciting ideas that would get more people hyped about being True Blue.

I am an overall progressive thinker. If something in the future needs a change or repair, I can generally give productive feedback in order to help make it better. I enjoy sharing my own opinions as well as discussing someone else's. I ultimately like knowing that I can make a positive impact on something.

 Melissa Lewis

Melissa LewisWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

I am running for senate to become more involved in all aspects of school and student life.  I want to present new and innovative ideas to increase student life. I also want to increase my leadership and responsibility qualities.

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

If I were elected to serve for SGA I would improve student life by providing more interesting events that would draw more students into becoming a true MTSU student.  A lot of people that attend MTSU only come for their classes. I want to get the people who don't participate in any of MTSU's events more involved in them.

 Chelsea Meadows

Chelsea MeadowsWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

I am running for my position because I love SGA and all that it brings to the table. It helps you grow and better the student body as a whole and I would love to continue to be apart of that. I feel this way because I am apart of Freshmen Council and we did many great things. Whether it be writing legislation or putting fourth new ideas to help make MTSU the best. I also feel that being apart of Freshmen council helped me greatly prepare for Senate.

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

I would continue to enhance the traditions that we already have set for MTSU and I would improve the student life by trying to host more on campus activities and events, as well as community service. I would try to talk to different students, that way I could get new and different ideas on what they want to see happen and to see what concerns the student body really has.

 Sarah Soto

Sarah SotoWhy are you running for a position within the Student Government Association?

I was extremely involved in my high school's student government, serving as representative all four years and secretary my senior year. I would be thrilled to be a part of SGA here at MTSU. I love and am very passionate about my university. If I were to be elected, I would do my best and put it in as much time and effort necessary to ensure that the student body's interests were well represented.

If you were elected to the SGA, what would you do to improve the quality of student life at MTSU?

If elected, I would work to bring more campus-wide involvement in SGA events. In addition, I feel that there is a significant portion of students who are uninformed about SGA and the ways in which the organization is there to benefit them. I would encourage a stronger effort towards informing MTSU's student body, primarily incoming freshmen. As a result, I feel there would be an increase in student input, and SGA would be more effective in representing the areas in which student life needs improvement.
