If I were selected to serve as the Student Government President for MTSU, I would look to increase the student’s overall pride and joy of their time at MTSU. My main goals as SGA President would be to: Increase the size of the Student Government Senate in order to accommodate new seats that would offer more representation for the MTSU student body, and work with MTSU faculty and others to ensure the translation of the student body’s goals. The campus of MTSU deserves a candidate with proven experience and work ethic that will be the voice of the student body. I am that candidate.

This year, I created Humans of MTSU, Facebook and Instagram accounts that highlight the diverse backgrounds of students across our campus so that SGA will be better equipped to serve the needs of our student body. Having served as a Freshman Council member, Senator, and Vice President of Marketing for the SGA Executive Board, I am thoroughly experienced and know the best ways to serve our student body. I’ve also served as a resident assistant and student ambassador for the past two years, so I’m confident in my ability to work well with the administration. To improve the quality of life here at MTSU, I would ensure that our senators are constantly maintaining contact with the students they are representing. In order to continue to have an impact at this university, I will remember who elected me to serve. Your interests are what make this university unique.

Candidates for Executive Vice-President

If I am privileged to be the next Executive Vice President of MTSU’s Student Government Association, I will push for the implementation of several policies to enhance student life here on campus. An issue I will passionately address will be passing the proper legislation in the SGA Senate and working with the current MTSU administration to create a lobbyist position at the Tennessee State Capitol with the duty of lobbying on behalf of the MTSU students, faculty, and administration. MTSU is currently one of the only large schools in Tennessee without a lobbyist fighting on our behalf. Both the University of Tennessee and the University of Memphis spend over fifty thousand dollars each year on lobbyist. This has been a major issue for the current Executive Vice President, and I look forward to carrying on the fight for MTSU’s representation at the Tennessee Capitol.

If elected by the students of MTSU to serve as SGA’s EVP this coming year I’d like to take not one big step in the right direction, but several small steps. These steps ultimately formed together will ultimately be that big step. Prior knowledge of the position I’m running for entitles: overseeing freshman council, leading at TISL, planning senate retreat and representing Senators; these four jobs are my small steps in moving the right direction of bettering student life.

  1. Overseeing FC: This is the reason I’m running for EVP, I want to help generate student life early with freshman and help get them doctrine into True Blue.
  2. Leading TISL: Taking TN legislation straight to the capital, in which I’ve been a part of before.
  3. Planning senate retreat: Deciding a good place to help new senators interact with each other.
  4. Representing SGA: Leading meetings with President

Candidates for Vice-President of Campus Relations

My name is Kenneth Anthony II and I am a sophomore Health Administration major at Middle Tennessee State University. I am in hopes of being elected as the SGA Vice President of Campus Relations. If given the opportunity to serve as VPCR, I would like to serve every individual attending the University by creating an environment where more students feel “True Blue” and actually want to attend MTSU. As Vice President of Campus Relations, there are a few things in which I know could help better the University. As Vice President of Campus Relations, it would be my duty to plan and host more events on campus that will allow students to be more involved, while at the same time increasing school spirit within the student body.  A few of these events include but are not limited to: Pep rallies, road rallies and watch parties.

Candidates for Vice-President of Marketing

If I, Courtney Brandon, was selected to serve as Vice President of Marketing for SGA, I would go out of my way to ensure that the students of Middle Tennessee State University knew what the Student Government Association has to offer the university. I wouldn’t only use social media as a form of marketing, but I’d also be interactive with students by tabling and hosting small events on campus to spread the word of what exactly SGA is doing throughout each semester. I will make myself easily accessible to the ideas and wants from the students on campus by creating business cards with my contact information on it. As Vice President Of Marketing for SGA, I will do all I can to market the attributes of SGA, inform students of what we are working on for them, and ensure that students are aware of events happening on and off campus!

SGA gives our student body a voice. I feel it is important for our student body to be aware of their voice, so they can assist with the improvement of their student life. It would be my responsibility to inform students about SGA, and display the resources SGA has to offer. Some students think SGA does not pertain to them, and I want to break this barrier. I want students to know their voice matters, and SGA is listening. As Vice-President of Marketing, I would ensure students understand their voice is vital for the success of MTSU.
