College of Liberal Arts Candidates

Kayo Beshir

Greetings Blue Raiders! I’m Kayo Bashir and a sophomore majoring in International Relations. I believe every Raider has a voice to be heard, and that voice has the power to transform MTSU. The MTSU Diversity Plan has identified diversity as essential to common life. I would use my post to make MTSU receptive to all students’ ideas and needs. I would work with the Office of Intercultural and Diversity Affairs to promote MTSU’s dedication to diversity and empower the voices of all diverse groups on campus and offer unconditional support to the ongoing needs of those I represent. I will ensure MTSU has a well-informed body, aware of the legislative actions affecting us. I believe we learn plenty from each other, and that should be fostered. Our Raider experience should encompass the insight of our fellow Raiders’ rich and diverse cultures. With your support, I am ready to get started!

Ste'ffon Jones

If elected Senator, I will help improve life of the students of the College of Liberal Arts at Middle Tennessee State University by being a constant voice and reflection of my fellow students. I will make myself available to my fellow students whenever there is a need or concern becauseI feel that  the greatest aspects of a leader are being a listener and a helper. A vote for Ste’ffon Jones  is not a vote for me but a vote for you!

In a class I took last semester the professor had us take the StrengthsFinder assessment to determine our biggest strengths in leadership. One of my five strengths was “individualization,” meaning I can see what makes each person unique in a given situation and use that uniqueness in the most effective way. This strength would be a major part of my time in SGA because I would love to simply talk to students to see what they individually want or need to make their time at MTSU better. Obviously I understand it is unlikely I would be able to talk to every student on this campus, but I believe even talking to 100 students would make a difference in the lives of all students.

If I were granted the opportunity to serve for SGA I would try my hardest to enhance the school spirit around campus. For example, as a freshman when I attend the sports games there are only a scarce amount of students there to support the athletes who play his or her heart out every game whether there is one person watching or one thousand people watching. I would strive to do more giveaways at the game and aim for the Freshman and Sophomore crowd, due to the fact that they are the future of the campus and if they are satisfied so will the rest of the campus be. Moreover, if I am selected I will strive to make this college experience perhaps the greatest four years of his or her life. Simply put, I want to make this campus flourish by putting on events that will trigger student participation.

MTSU is a diverse university where students from every culture are accepted. Being raised in a diverse culture, I would like to pass that experience to my peers. Ensuring that students from diverse culture have the best experience possible, creating an environment for a smooth transition to the MTSU community for students coming from a different culture, and developing a structure that promotes a social and cultural life to expand their educational experience. I am serving as President of Ambassadors of VSA TN and recognized as Nashville Volunteer of the month. Also, served as a president of Indian Student Association and as a Treasurer now. I believe my experience with these organizations have instilled my leadership skills and become a more people oriented person who will go above and beyond to support the community. My goal serving in SGA is to be the voice of all diverse students on campus.

Denarius Stinson

If elected to serve the SGA position of Senator of Liberal Arts, I would improve the quality of student life by enhancing students’ on-campus experiences and addressing the issues that they tell me concern them the most. I feel as if this is something that is often promised, but rarely followed through on, but in my hands, the Liberal Arts branch would be proactive in finding out what students, especially those in our major, would like to see done on campus regarding events, clubs, and just program publicity in general. Further than that though, over the course of my campaign I will make it imperative to really speak to voters and understand what their particular issues are regarding campus so that I and the rest of my fellow SGA members can make note of them and work towards fixing them as they need to be.
