Meet Jo Ann & Her Beautiful Children

"Honored & Blessed"

Jo Ann McFadden was born on June 25, 1973 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Jo Ann has eleven siblings; 7 brothers and 4 sisters. When she was young, Jo Ann considered herself a homebody. She and her family were raised in Murfreesboro, and to this day they remain close. Once a month you can find the entire family dining and fellowshipping together at Jo Ann's mother's house.

Jo Ann attended McFadden Elementary, Central Middle School, and graduated from Riverdale High School in 1991. In high school she was a member of the RHS Half-Timers as well as the RHS Volleyball Team. It was also during this time that she welcomed her first child; Terrence. Terrence was born on January 17, 1989 and from day one he has struggled with respiratory issues.

Upon graduation, Jo Ann immediately joined the work force. She wanted to provide a good life for her and her son. In 1994, Jo Ann moved out of her mother's home and into an apartment. On January 14, 1995 Jo Ann welcomed her second child; Tierra.

Jo Ann continued to work at different jobs but she longed for something better. On June 20, 1998 Jo Ann and the father of her children decided to get married. On February 17, 1999 they welcomed their third child; Tierra. Over the years the family rented at one place, but deep down Jo Ann hoped for something more stable, a home of her own.

In 2004, Jo Ann began taking classes at Draughons College. After three years of hard work, Jo Ann graduated with an Associate's Degree as a Medical Assistant. She has worked at Adams' Place as a CNT/MA for the last twelve years.

In February of 2008, Jo Ann and her husband decided to get a divorce. When the two of them separated, Jo Ann and all three kids moved into an apartment. Their privacy was gone and their space was limited, but Jo Ann and her family never gave up hope. They were in need of a home and their faith was their foundation.

One day Jo Ann heard a gentleman on the radio talking about the Habitat Program. That particular gentleman was from another county, but Jo Ann did her research and found the contact info for the Rutherford County affiliate. After speaking to the Family Services Coordinator, Jo Ann decided to apply for the Habitat Program. Her prayers were answered when she received the call that she was accepted.

Jo Ann's children are all very excited about a new beginning, a new start, and a quiet place to call home. They pick at one another like siblings, but I could tell right away how much they care for one another.

Terrence continues to struggle with health issues but he has a very jovial spirit and enjoys spending time with his son. He has aspirations of becoming a barber and having his own business.

Tierra has been blessed with the gift of entertainment. She loves singing, leading Bible Study at their church, and being around kids. Currently Tierra works at Big Lots and plans to attend MTSU in January. She wants to pursue a degree in Child Psychology.

Tierra is the quietest of the bunch, but she definitely has an eye for fashion. She loves writing music, doing nails, hanging out with friends, and hopes to be a cosmetologist.

As for sweet Jo Ann, she is truly proud of herself and how far she has come. She has been strong minded and determined to bring stability to her family. She has really enjoyed meeting the other partner families whose stories might be slightly different but who are all working towards the same goal; homeownership. Jo Ann is planning on going back to school to get her LPN.

Jo Ann and her family would like to thank the MTSU Student Life for making this possible. "I am really excited to have them on board and for the younger people to help with this dream," Jo Ann said with a smile.

Next Spring you will find Jo Ann and her children surrounded by family as they host a get together to celebrate her homeownership!
