Dr. Gene Fitch


Gene Fitch became the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Student Life at Middle Tennessee State University in September 2005. He joined the administration at MTSU in July of 1997 as the Assistant Dean for Judicial Affairs and Mediation Services. While at MTSU, he has served as the Associate Dean for Student Life and was later promoted to the position of Assistant Vice-President of Student Affairs. Dr. Fitch also has research responsibility for the division of Student Affairs.

Dr. Fitch completed both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education at Arkansas Tech University. He completed his Doctorate of Education at the University of Arkansas in 1997. His dissertation was entitled, "Assessing the Effectiveness of Campus Judicial Systems in Doctoral Granting Institutions." In 1998, his research received national recognition by being selected as the Dissertation of the Year by the Association for Judicial Affairs.

Dr. Fitch began his career in higher education as the Assistant Director of Student Activities at the Daytona Beach campus of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. A short while later he left there to become the Assistant Director of Campus Activities at the University of Arkansas. He served six years in that capacity before accepting the position of Assistant Dean of Judicial Affairs at Arkansas. He left there in 1997 to assume similar responsibilities at MTSU.
