TLSAMP:  Steadily increasing the number of underrepresented students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).


Thank you for your interest in the TLSAMP program at Middle Tennessee State University

Our university is a proud member of the Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (TLSAMP).  Other alliance institutions include Lemonye-Owen College, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Tennessee State University, and Vanderbilt University.  TLSAMP funding is underwritten by a grant from the National Science Foundation.


This program at MTSU is designed to give special attention to your needs to help you success in completing your degree.  If you are an underrepresented student majoring in science, technology, engineering or math ( STEM), you may even qualify to receive financial assistance.  We provide resources in the following areas:

Research Opportunities
Life Skill Workshop
Regional & National Conferences
Poster and Research Presentation
Financial Aid Assistance

Anyone may join our program.  We provide  3 levels of membership:



Level 1:  Any participating member of the following underrepresented groups (African – American, Hispanic, Native, American) majoring in one of the following subject areas:  Agricultural Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geosciences, Life/Biological Sciences ,Mathematics, Physics/Astronomy receiving Financial Assistance from the program.



Level 2:  Any member of the following underrepresented groups (African – American, Hispanic, Native, American) majoring in one of the following subject areas:  Agricultural Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geosciences, Life/Biological Sciences ,Mathematics, Physics/Astronomy not receiving Financial Assistance from the program.


Level 3:  Any other MTSU student who does not fall into one of the previous two categories.
