Purpose & Resposibilities of the Internship in ITD


The ITD Faculty Internship was established in 1997 by the MTSU Teaching, Learning and Technology Roundtable (TLTR) and is jointly funded by the offices of the Executive Vice President and Provost and the Information Technology Division. Its intent is to provide faculty members with a variety of experiences that relate to computer technology, telecommunications and instructional and research support. The intern will receive six hours of reassigned time for both the fall and spring semesters The intern has numerous opportunities to participate in ITD activities. While housed in the Faculty Instructional Technology Center, the intern is able to collaborate with instructional technology (IT) specialists and other faculty, staff and students in promoting instructional technology on campus; while having opportunities to develop their own IT skills. The intern participates in numerous ITD and University committees to gain a broader perspective of the information technology needs on campus and represent faculty concerns at those meetings. The intern has the opportunity to participate in ITD projects such as IT-related research and the evaluation of on-line teaching tools.

Other duties may include:

  • Grant writing - identify instructional technology grant sources, gather data, and write and submit grant proposals
  • Publications - prepare papers for instructional technology related seminars, conferences, and symposiums, etc.
  • Presentations and seminars - demonstrate the use of technology as a tool in the classroom to MTSU faculty
  • Consulting - One-on-one consulting with faculty on instructional technology development, instructional design, master classrooms use, elearning equipment and software
  • Faculty liaison - discuss instructional technology needs with faculty, gather feedback from faculty via formal and informal surveys, plan faculty gatherings to discuss instructional technology topics
  • Serve as an ad hoc member of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable (TLTR)
  • Other duties as assigned by the director and in consultation with the faculty member
Past faculty interns are available to answer questions or discuss the internship opportunity with any interested faculty member.
