Effective Fall 2014, the Bachelor of University Studies became the Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies.
The Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies degree is an excellent four-year degree for students choosing to pursue a broad-based educational experience. This program offers flexible course scheduling and may be particularly appropriate for students with prior credits that can be applied to a four-year degree. Students may be able to receive academic credit for military experience or other certifications previously earned.
Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies majors benefit from the personal attention provided by their advisors. They work with each student to review prior academic work; to discuss their aptitude and interests as well as future career goals; and to customize unique programs of study designed to maximize the use of previous credits earned while minimizing additional coursework required for degree completion. In addition, students are given the chance to participate in internships which offer occasions for rich and practical learning experiences outside of the classroom while also providing networking opportunities.
The required courses in the major include Leadership Theories and Practice (LEAD 3010); Senior Career Development Seminar (PRST 3030); and Senior Capstone (PRST 4010). These courses provide students with an outstanding skill set, which will set them apart as they transition fully from the academic environment to the professional environment.
The Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies is interdisciplinary and not designed to provide training in a particular vocation. However, in partnership with other university departments several pre-planned Areas of Emphasis are offered. Students may also, in consultation with their advisor, design Areas of Emphasis that meet their future career goals or prepare them for graduate degree programs. Students choosing this degree option may also select a minor and/or other course work to support their area of emphasis.
