Education:
Experience:
7 years teaching developmental and college-level math at University of Memphis, Shelby
State Community College, College of the Marshall Islands, and MTSU
A few achievements or accomplishments:
Some interesting or time consuming projects:
Developed an on-line Intermediate algebra class at the University of Memphis
Describe your teaching style:
I stress use of the TI-83 calculator and supplement my lectures with individual or
small group practice sessions using both the calculator and paper and pencil to solve
problems.
What do you like most about teaching?
I enjoy seeing people who have very low self-confidence about math realize they can
do it if they try hard enough and are persistent.
What do you like least about teaching?
Students who do not try hard and are not persistent.
What do you expect from your students?
I expect students to attend class, to arrive on time, to be prepared, to behave appropriately
in class, and to do their best.
What should they expect from you?
The same that I expect from them, and to be fair.
Areas of interest outside the classroom:
Hiking/backpacking, travel, volcanology. I particularly enjoy visiting erupting volcanoes
and hiking along cold barren coastal regions with high cliffs and seabird colonies.
