Stipend Information
Important First Note:
If you are receiving financial aid through MTSU's
Office of Financial Aid, please call the Financial aid office at
(898-2830), to discuss how the URECA stipend may affect your
financial aid package. URECA stipends are part of the allowable
amount of financial aid a student can receive, and registration
for future classes may be blocked if you are already receiving
the maximum.
Q When are stipends paid?
A. When the URECA office has been given
confirmation of your number of completed hours by your mentor. This
can be done by the mentor signing a time sheet, or by the mentor
simply emailing the information to the URECA coordinator.
Checks can be divided into several payments and are mailed to the
student's home address. 2 payments per semester are
allowed. To receive a final payment, a final report must be
turned in to the URECA office, Sam Ingram O11B, or emailed to the
URECA Coordinator.
Q Do I get my stipend in one lump sum?
A Your stipend will be divided into the number of
instalments that your award time frame includes. For example,
if your proposal was dated Jan 15 through May 15 (one semester),
your stipend will be divided into 2 installments; if it was dated
Jan 15 through August 15 (2 semesters), your stipend would be
divided into 4 installments, etc. If your project is for a
very short period of time, such as for just one month of the summer
session for example, it is possible that your stipend check could
be paid in one sum. Please check with the URC office.
Q How will I get my check?
You will need to get your mentor to approve
your hours by emailing the URECA coordinator or by signing a
formal time sheet. This is up to you and the mentor. As the
URECA office receives this information, paperwork will be
processed and the checks mailed to the address listed in the
application.
Q Can my stipend check be direct deposited?
A Considering special circumstances in the
summer, maybe. Summer projects may be in locations other than
Murfreesboro, for example, or mentors may be out of town and
difficult to reach for signatures to verify your hours. Check with
the URC office to have special arrangements considered.
