Eva Moses Kor, a survivor of Mengele's infamous "Twins Experiments" at Auschwitz, recently visited the campus of Middle Tennessee State University as a guest speaker on the Holocaust. In her discussion of the fate of children in the Holocaust she said,
"All things considered, I would rather have been on Schindler's list than on Mengele's list. But I now know that it was better to be on Mengele's list than on nobody's list at all."
Eva's observation underscores the fact that all but a tiny fraction of the children deported to Nazi concentration and extermination camps were not on anyone's "list" and were murdered, along with their families, in the Holocaust. Until recently, little attention has been given to the children who were victims of the Holocaust. In this section, there are currently two selections. The first is a beautifully poignant poem entitled "Daniel" by Laura Harper. The poem was inspired by her reading of Milton Meltzer's fine book, Never to Forget: The Jews of the Holocaust. The second is a document from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., "Children and the Holocaust."
