COURSES:

Horse Industry ABAS 4170: The purpose of this course is to introduce students to all aspects of decision making facing the equine industry through the examination of operational strategies and issues involved in planning, organization, implementation and administration of equine enterprises.

Equine Health ABAS 3300: This course is designed to inform students about horse health care management practices and recognition of horse health problems. Students will learn how to manage common horse health problems encountered in various situations such as training, showing and breeding. Horse health issues unique to boarding stables as well as individually kept horses will be covered.

 

Equine Reproduction and Breeding ABAS 4090: This course will emphasize breeding management procedures and techniques related to artificial insemination, foaling and neonatal care . Class will consist of two 1hr lectures and one 2hr lab each week. After satisfactorily completing this course, students will be able to: safely control mares and stallions for breeding, prepare and use varied types of semen collection equipment, collect stallions, evaluate semen, pack and ship semen, inseminate mares, perform mare/foal on-site tests, recognize foaling and neonatal problems..
